Open Room Moves to 115
Night & weekend hours will now be held in Rolfs 115 instead of Rolfs 114. Rolfs 114 has better A/V capabilities, so we will make that room available for evening classes and screenings. The scanner has been moved, so it will still be accessible during open hours. |

Rolfs 115 Server Reboot
The server for Rolfs 115 will be rebooted after classes are done, at 5:00p.m. Friday, 2/1, to test a new configuration. Downtime should be short, and the room will be un-used at that time. |

SSH Upgrade
Wednesday, 1/23, at 5:00 p.m. we will be upgrading the version of SecureShell (SSH) used at CLAS. The new version fixes a number of known security problems and adds support for the version 2 protocol. Any remote sessions open during this window will be closed. Remote access will be restored no later than 5:20pm. |

StarOffice Fixed
The StarOffice problem was traced to an NFS version problem between the file server and the client machines. We've put a copy of StarOffice on a server running the older version of NFS and StarOffice now runs properly on login.nwe.ufl.edu and other NWE machines. |

The NWE labs will have regular open-lab hours through Sunday, December 9. During exam week, December 10-14 the labs will be open 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. |

NWE Policy of Intellectual Property
Previously, our policies stated that copyrighted materials could be used on NWE servers only if the use was appropriate under the criterion of academic fair use -- an exception to the US Copyright Code which allows the limited use of copyrighted material for, among other things, educational purposes. Our policies also recommended that all use of copyrighted material "should strive to follow standard academic conventions for citation". This is no longer a recommendation, but a requirement. |

Server-Side Includes
In an effort to include more information uniformly and automatically in our web pages, we are moving filenames from "index.html" to "index.shtml" and using Server-Side Include tags to auto-generate parts of our web pages. Any bookmarks or page links to files called "index.html" should be modified to reference the directory, not the index file. |
