NWE Help: Web Authoring: ASWE Help

NWE Home :: Help :: Web :: Authoring :: ASWE

There are a couple of ways that you can get help with asWe as you work. There is help available on the web (aside from the pages you're reading now), but the best source of help is help documentation built into the program itself.

Tool tips:
Before all else, try tool tips. These are the easiest to use. Just hold the mouse still over any button, without clicking, and a small yellow box will appear to tell you what the button does.

Built-in help:
ASWE help buttons There are four types of built-in help, which you can access with the four buttons on the top row of the ASWE window (buttons shown at right).

  1. General help
This mode is the standard method of searching for help with the functions of asWe. It provides the user with access to help on virtually any of the things asWe can do. To get to the general help menu, press the F1 key on your keyboard.
  2. Tag help
This features explains HTML tags, including the attributes that can be used to modify them. Careful study of these entries can help make you into a serious web-designer.
  3. HTML help
This is a nuts and bolts explanation of what makes HTML tick. It's designed for the novice user, but it's also a good explanation of HTML that should be helpful to almost any user. You'll need to scroll down through their explanation of the super-basic stuff in order to get to the links to other topics (see below).
  4. Context help
Press this button and the cursor will change to a funny question mark. Next, click on any button or part of the screen and you'll get help with that particular item. Sometimes the help has to do with HTML; other times it's more specific to asWe.

Navigating the built-in help:

Once you're in the help system, go to the index of different help topics by clicking the index button at the bottom of the image. You'll see a fair amount of text which appears in a different color than the rest (usually blue) and is underlined. These are web-style hypertext links, with one important difference: you must press the "Follow" button in the lower right in order to get the help program to go to the topic of choice (see below).
