NWE Help: MOO: Intro: What is MOOville
NWE Home :: Help :: MOO :: Intro
MOOville is a type of text-based virtual reality called a MOO (MUD Object Oriented). In the MOO you will be able to walk around and talk to other characters. Actually you can do quite a bit more than that, as you will see in later sections of this documentation. The MOO is used by instructors for discussions and creative work.
The real-world topographical model for MOOville is Rolfs Hall and the campus of UF. Characters are students enrolled in classes taught in the Networked Writing Environment, instructors teaching sections in the lab, graduate students and faculty from the English department, and instructors involved in computers and composition from other institutions around the world.
MOOville characters (also known as "players") can move from place to place, interact with other participants, and manipulate objects and gadgets that others have built. You can use MOOville as an electronic forum for in-class discussions and as a space to meet for discussions with your peers (both from your own class and from other classes) at any time of the day.
This guide provides a list of the most common commands for navigating in MOOville. It also offers pointers for key words to help you take advantage of MOOville's extensive on-line help system. See the bottom of this page for links to other NWE documents that can be useful.
