Assignment Worksheet

This is a MOO scavenger hunt to learn how to explore and use commands in the MOO.

For help on any of the actions, just highlight the web page using the mouse cursor—the answers are in white text so they won't show unless you need help and then you can highlight the page to see the answers.

Some of the commands that are covered in this are:

Scavenger Hunt

  • When you first log in, you'll begin at the Hub. Part of the MOO is built to mimic UF's actual structure and other parts are not. From the hub, walk to the Turlington vending machines and buy some candy.

  • Now that your MOO character has eaten, walk over to the second floor of Rolfs Hall.

  • From here, go back down to Lake Alice and take note of the path you take.

  • When you walk from the second floor of Rolfs to Lake Alice, you go through the women's bathroom. While Lake Alice is fictitiously placed under Rolfs Hall, there actually is a crawl space that leads beneath Rolfs Hall that's accessible through the second floor women's bathroom—it's through the old chimney that really does exist.

  • Now that you're back in the Lake Alice area, go to the Android's Dungeon and read the writing on its chalkboard.

  • Now, let's walk to the MOOseum, which holds past MOOville projects. From here you can use explore all of the projects, but let's try one for now. Go to the Fairytale Waiting room, from Spring 2003.

  • This is a revisionist fairytale, so it's darkly comedic. Try reading the chart and diary and looking closely at other objects.

  • From here, let's take a longer trip to the somewhat realistic 1930s-ish New York and to a speakeasy.

  • Once you're in the speakeasy, you'll notice that F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald are here. They won't say much unless you bug them. Try waking them up and saying hello to see what they say.

  • You can also try asking F. Scott about his writing or about literature and Zelda about fighting or about advertising. Zelda and Scott are robots, or bots, and they respond to certain keywords. If you say something in the same room with a bot who's awake that contains its keyword, then the bot will respond. Well programmed bots (and there aren't too many) respond to lots of keywords. F. Scott and Zelda don't have too many, but highlight below to see some keys to get them talking.

  • Leave the speakeasy and go to Moe's.

  • Make sure to say hello to Moe, and to ask him about the bunnies for sale.

    Moe will reply, "Just take the darned things; I can't get rid of 'em fast enough." So, look at the bunnies, take a bunny (which will be "color bunny", like white bunny, black bunny), and then look at yourself carrying the bunny. If the bunny is in the crate, you'll need to look at the crate and remove the bunny from the crate.
